Sleepaway Camp (1983)[]
Ben watched the kids arrive at Camp Arawak with his supervisor, Artie. Artie brazenly commented on his perverted urges, which Ben laughed off. Within a few days, Ben walked into the kitchen and found Artie screaming in pain on the floor. Camp owner Mel Kostic bribed Ben with a promotion and a raise to keep Artie's 'accident' quiet. While Ben wasn't openly hateful of Artie, he admitted that Artie deserved his fate because, as he put it, "Artie always had the devil in him."
Character[]
Ben is a very nice and kind man. He sees Artie's devious behavior, or at the least suspects him, but doesn't act to protect the children because he naively doesn't think Artie is sick enough to fully act on his urges, or feels he doesn't have the authority to do anything. Given his age and race, Ben spent most of his life during Jim Crow/pre-civil rights times, and his personality reflects his subservient/yes-man mannerisms.
