Every other camper at Camp Manabe
Every other camp staff at Camp Manabe
Alan Chambers was a troubled 14-year-old with poor social skills who attended Camp Manabe with his abusive stepbrother who attacked him for doing some wrong things. While he bullied the younger kids, he was the constant butt of the older campers' and counselors' pranks. Angela Baker observed this and killed those who were mean to him. Former Camp Arawak counselor Ronnie and a girl named Petey would always protect him and stand up for him.
At some point in his childhood, Alan contracted rheumatic fever, and while he was cured, his doctor told him there would be lasting affects. This may explain Alan's awkward social skills and emotional behavior. His stepbrother, Michael, accuses Alan of using the fever as an excuse for his bad behavior. Alan and Michael attended Camp Manabe at the same time, and while Alan admires his older stepbrother and looks to him as a protector, Michael treats Alan with contempt and uses his brother's admiration to exploit him. Michael not only takes part in tormenting Alan, but inflicts some of the most cruel behavior towards him.
Although he sometimes causes trouble, Alan was probably once a good kid but it seems his bad behavior comes from being bullied by some counselors, the camp owner, and some older campers, including his step-brother Michael. He develops a deep hatred towards all of them. He seems to want a good relationship with his stepbrother, but Michael hates him and bullies him too. In short, Alan is a troubled, obnoxious, whiny, rude, disrespectful and nasty loudmouth along with poor social skills. He is also a slob, wearing the same filthy, smelly clothes every day. He also has nasty table manners and eating habits. However, he still has a kind-heart because he has a love for frogs and is sweet to them, and is always nice to Karen, who he has a crush on. When Ronnie and Petey are nice to him, he is nice back and gives them respect.
Return to Sleepaway Camp (2008)
He serves as the main protagonist of the film.
Alan is almost the exact opposite of Peter/Angela Baker from the first Sleepaway Camp movie. He is also bullied by most of the other campers, camp owner, and counselors, but while Angela was picked on for being painfully shy and quiet, Alan is bullied mainly because of his obnoxious personality and slovenly appearance. He also picks on the younger, smaller campers and never hesitates to use the words "Your ass stinks!" when aggravated.
He has a contentious relationship with his stepbrother Michael, who is arguably smarter than most of the other male campers, but Michael abuses Alan. His love interest is Karen, who despite not having any feelings for Alan, is different from other female campers as she doesn't participate in the teasing and bullying. In fact, Alan and Karen briefly bond over their mutual dislike for Mickey, the lazy and mean assistant cook.
Despite him being almost alone, Alan does have a group of frogs he likes hanging out with. He treats them like pets and acts very protectively towards them especially, if one of them is hurt. When Alan brings Karen to his "secret hideout", a place near the lake where he eats junk food and watches his frogs, they find that several of his frogs have been skinned and killed, and Michael pridefully boasts that he was the one responsible, and just did it to hurt Alan.
Alan was almost killed by his stepbrother, Michael, when the latter suspects him of trying to kill Karen.
Ricky Thomas, Jenny, and Ronnie found him barely alive.
After almost being killed by his stepbrother Michael, Angela skinned Michael alive for all the cruel things he's done to him and his frogs, and Ronnie, Ricky and Jenny found Alan barely alive. He learned that Angela was the one who committed all these murders at camp and was upset she didn't kill all the campers and camp staff that mistreated and tortured him but glad she killed some of them as he hated them. He even learned about his step brother's death. It is unknown whether he and Karen made up after they learned that Angela was behind all the murders.
